Site Plan
The new museum will be located between the present building and the gazebo. It is 70' long and 40' wide.
Since general stores were such a vital part of area history, the first floor of the present building, (70' x 20), will be converted into an old time country store. The commemorative wall will be moved and the flowerbeds relocated.
Lower Level
The lower level includes a 28' x 24' learning center, offices, rest rooms, and storage space. Office space for the historical society and the Home of the Hamburger is provided.
A large storage area (500 Sq. ft.) allows for changing displays. Temporary exhibits may be featured in the learning center.
Main Floor
The main floor consists of an entryway, large exhibit area (1,492 square feet), gift shop, rest rooms, and elevator.
Rest rooms will be open to the outside to accommodate people who use Nagel Park and the bike trail. Displays tell the story of Seymour's early years. Several high-tech exhibits designed to draw attention, including a hands-on area for kids.
Second Floor
The top floor features 1,631 square feet of display area with a 10' x 40' opening to view main floor exhibits.
A substantial exhibit will portray the birth of the burger in Seymour. City institutions such as civic organizations, schools, churches, businesses and veterans are emphasized. A mini-theater and sound dome will enhance the displays.
