About Horatio Seymour
Seymour was the Governor of New York during the 1860's. Also a speculator, he invested in Wisconsin land in the vicinity of Green Bay hoping it would increase in value with the completion of the canal at Portage connecting the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. He ran against U.S. Grant for the Presidency in 1868. Since he was the largest landowner in the area, the town was named after him.
